Sworn translation, a demanding field

Sworn translation turns out to be a particularly sophisticated exercise consisting in making the principles of two different legal systems coincide. As each system has its own legal terminology, the final text should be equivalent and not identical to the source text. Legal translation is similar to localization work: it is essential to take into account the cultural context, local procedures and regulations to produce a compliant translation. Beyond translating words, the professional transforms underlying legal concepts and institutions. But be careful, a sworn translation does not replace the original, for example you cannot present the certified translation of your driving license without the original during a control even if it is written that it is a true copy of the original.

Law is a constantly changing subject. The expert translator must therefore maintain professional skills by regularly following training courses and by practicing diligent legal monitoring.

The Sworn Translator must:

Have advanced knowledge of law and related technical vocabulary; he must also know the administrative procedures
Constantly carry out a legal watch in order to assimilate and report any legislative changes;
Documenting oneself with a view to a perfect understanding and restitution of the documents to be translated;
Fully master the source language;
Translate strictly into their mother tongue;
Refrain from accepting work the quality of which it cannot guarantee;
Refuse deadlines incompatible with the assigned mission;
Have excellent writing skills;
Demonstrate rigor.
Finally, sworn translations must be translated or certified by sworn translators Qualified by the Monaco Court of Appeal whose mission is to certify the translation as true to the original. The Sworn Translators in France are also recognized in Monaco but they are not all informed of the requirements of the Monegasque administration.

Given these requirements, using a certified legal translation company such as Traductions Laurent Pajou is essential to ensure impeccable quality and reduce the risk of errors and misunderstandings.
